Class Information

Reading Books:

Books are changed every Monday and Thursday. We strongly encourage regular reading with your child and do ask that the reading record is updated each time that you do. At the front of your child's reading record will be a list of questions, prompts and ideas to help you support their reading.

As the year progresses we do expect the children to become independent in terms of handing their books and reading records in. This is an important part of them progressing and becoming more independent and responsible learners. I would like to ask for your support with that.

Homework:

Homework is set on a Thursday and is due in on the following Monday. The homework will usually consist of either a piece of written Maths or English, an online MyMaths piece as well as spellings. We have a spelling test the following Friday. I will also be sending home a book for the children to write in. This can be used for the set written homework or for additional writing that your child may want to do. As the year progresses we will also begin with times tables tests. In Year 1 we aim to have an understanding of doubling but also introduce the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

Learning

The topic webs show the subjects that we will cover during each half term. They show the books that our literacy lessons will be based on, Maths topics and areas covered as well as all of the points in humanities and PE. The class timetable is also available and shows how each day is structured, though this may change as the year progresses. Phonics, Maths and English take place in the mornings and in the afternoons we have our Guided Reading and handwriting lesson followed by the topic lessons. The children have a morning playtime, lunch and where possible a short afternoon playtime.

If you have any questions about the areas that will be covered in Year 1 please feel free to ask.

Class Dojo

Class Dojo is an online means of communicating between parents and the class teacher.  This can be used to share important information, to make appointments or to let you know about something fantastic that your child has done.  Should you need to discuss anything you can also speak to me directly before (where time allows) after school.
