Please see the links below which are teaching videos for the 4 lessons this week. The resources for each lesson are below each video. (Please note: the children do not have to complete every challenge on the challenge sheets. They can select a few).

Lesson 1

 

Technical vocabulary: The specialised vocabulary of any field which evolves due to the need for experts in a field to communicate with clarity, precision, relevance and brevity (concise and exact use of words).

 

Task 1: research a science topic of your choice on the computer (gathering information) and make a note of the keywords that are used. 

Task 2: write about that topic including the keywords and information you have learnt. Underline the technical vocabulary (keywords for that topic) you have used with a different colour. 

 

Lesson 2

 

Task: Read the Sandy Cove text (attached below) and answer these comprehension questions:

 

1. What literary feature is clearly used in the first paragraph?

2. How do you feel when reading the second paragraph? Why?

3. What is a synonym of 'spectacular'?

4. What was Deadman's Cave believed to have been used by?

5. What is the tidal pool described as?

6. How does the author entice the reader to visit Sandy Cove?

7. Is this information text effective? Why?

Lesson 3

 

Task: using the toolkit below, highlight the features in the Sandy Cove text. Also, write down what you like and don't like about the text. Why? How could it be improved?

Lesson 4

 

Task: Pick a topic you are interested in and research facts for an information text. Then, plan your information text using the boxing up document below.

Lesson 1

 

Plan an adventure tale including dialogue. This is a hot task so you are showing what you have learnt in this unit. You can decide what you want your adventure story to be about. Please see the plan below to remind you of how your adventure tale should flow. You can type or print and write your plan in this document. 

Lesson 2

 

Using your plan from yesterday, write an adventure tale including dialogue. The toolkit is below to remind you of the key features of dialogue. Remember, this is your hot task so you are showing all you have learnt and including your targets. 

Lesson 3

 

Look at your adventure story and check that you have included all of the tools (key features) from the toolkit. Also, using a red pen/ pencil edit and improve your hot task. Focus on editing incorrect spellings/ punctuation and then include anything that you think will improve the story. 

 

 

Lesson 4

 

Write an information text on a topic of your choice. This is the cold task for your new unit of writing so you are showing me what you think an information text looks like.
